Location: Yosemite National Park, CA
Activity: Camping
Duration: 2 Days
Cocktail: Uinta Brewery Pumpkin Ale
Trip Details: Weekend trip boondock camping with my 2 dogs. I decided to take a camping trip since the weather is cooling down and makes for a nicer evening sleeping outside. I also wanted to get in a Yosemite trip before the roads that cross the Sierras start closing for the Winter.
I tried something different this trip and decided to sleep in my Jeep Wrangler with the two dogs. It sounds crowded, but it worked out fine. Since the goal was to get up early and hit the road to enjoy Yosemite Valley, I figured it would be easier this was than dealing with breaking down a tent in the morning.
The concept backfired a little bit because I ended up having to rearrange so much stuff within the Jeep (clothes bag, food sack, dog food containers, water jug, etc.) to make room for us all to fit comfortably, that it ended up taking extra time in the morning to get things back in place. In the end, can't say it was much more time efficient.
Yosemite requires a reservation to enter the park, which can be acquired on recreation.gov for $2. This reservation is meant to limit the amount of people in the park and does not act as an entrance fee. You will still have to pay to enter the park upon arrival. I opted for the $80 "America The Beautiful" Pass because it is valid for one year and is good for all National Parks. It can even be shared with a friend or significant other.
Drink Details: I went with a simple beer this time since the calendar just turned October and it had me craving a pumpkin beer. I had never tried Uinta Brewery, so it was something new to try. It is brewed out of out of Salt Lake City and has an ABV (Alcohol By Volume) of 5.0%, making it fairly moderate on the alcohol scale. I did enjoy the beer for sure.
Photo Description: This is a picture of my two dogs and a can of the Pumpkin Ale to help me kickoff the Fall season. We stopped along the West Walker River, which originates up in the Sierras, and follows Route 108 down the Eastern side of the mountains, and then meanders along 395 North to Topaz Lake on the California-Nevada border.
